Minutes of the Hillsdale Neighborhood Association Meeting 
Jan 4, 2006

1. Convened at 7:05 pm by President, Don Baack. 
Attendance :  approximately 16
December meeting minutes approved.

2. Portland City Parks Commissioner Discussion with Dan Saltzman:  After a few opening remarks on the status of the Parks Bureau and the upcoming City Budget Review Process and the Open House at Benson High School on Wednesday 1/11/06 at 6:00 pm, Dan continued to present his ideas of working with the neighborhoods in community activities that can improve our parks.  Don Baack pointed out several areas where the citizens have had to push back on some of the parks staff’s preconceived notions of how things should be run by the “bureau” in order to come to a more reasonable and cooperative working relationship.  He continued in explaining the recent process undertaken for the Master Planning of Hillsdale Park as an example of what input the citizens can bring to the table.

3. SWHRL – Hillsdale Boundary Status:  Aloha Wyse presented an overview of the on-going process in working toward a mutual agreeable resolution to the “overlap” boundary dispute.  The committee has been working on methodology issues in preparation for reviewing the survey results.  There is still a ways to go in coming up with a workable solution in drawing a boundary line that is acceptable to all parties involved.

4. Reports:
 a. Hillsdale Renaissance – Duane Hunting and John Gould presented a quick overview of the desire to work with the residents and business owners within Hillsdale Town Center area to define common goals and improvement ideas that could lead to some real upgrading outcomes.
 b. Fred Meyer Building Redesign – Don Baack explained his recent discussions with a representative of Fred Meyer parent company, indicating that there was a chance that they would be interested in discussing the options of the future renovation effort with a small group of individuals from the neighborhood association.  Don will continue to track this issue.
 c. Other land Uses Issues – Duane Hunting indicated that other than just a few small landscaping upgrades, there was not much to report this month.
 d. Outreach Committee (Meghan MacKenzie) – Nothing major to report this month.
 e. SWNI Report (Glenn bridger) – The School Committee meeting is on Thursday 1/19/06 at the Multnomah Arts Center Building.
 f. Hillsdale Plaza Planning Grant – Meghan MacKenzie reported that HNA received the Grant approval to our application, and the planning process we be under way very soon.
 g. SW Trails work party – Don Baack reminded the group of the 1/7/06 (9:00 – 12:00) work party at SW 5th and SW Nevada (near Dan Saltzman’s house).
 h. Hillsdale Sign Repairs Work Party – Don Baack informed the group that repair to the sign at Rieke school would be repaired soon.
 i. Wilson pool north entrance design efforts – Duane hunting explained that two design firms were being considered to provide an initial review of the recent Parks Bureau’s design to better address the concerns raised by one of the financial supporters.
 j. Sign Caps at SW Boundary area – Brief discussion on the need to repair/replace damaged sign caps in this area.
 k. Tri-Met Bus Route #39 – Don Baack stated that a test run trip of the new proposed route was scheduled soon.
