The Deceptive Cube

| This is not one
puzzle with six pieces. It's actually a pair of related puzzle pieces
that make up twelve different puzzles. Those six pieces in the far box
are the mirror images of the pieces in the near box. We can switch any
pair of equivalent mirror-image pieces between the two boxes and we have
a new puzzle.
Of the twelve puzzles, one is rather easy: it has seven different solutions. One of the twelve has no solution. The puzzle is much harder than its cousin, the Soma cube. When you manage a solution, it's a little difficult to remember it. Substituting a mirror image for any of the pieces usually goes unnoticed. So if a switch results in the puzzle with no solution, the solution has mysteriously disappeared! |
