Our ancestors from 40,000 years ago did not have computers, television, telephones, high-tech autos, electrical power grids, sophisticated pharmaceuticals, medical imaging wonders, digital cameras, space exploration, weapons of mass destruction, massively proliferated information networks...

Otherwise, they had just what we have (our body and brain).  They worked to eat and ate that they could work.  They perceived.  They imagined.  They chatted.  They learned.  And eventually they began to understand a little of what they learned.  Today we understand work and energy.
